⚠️ Take care when removing your old valve
It is common for a chunky brass ring (the bush) to come out with the valve, particularly on older taps. If this happens and you can’t separate them, the brass bush will also need replacing. Please see the image below (for illustration only; your valve may differ slightly).

One bush is required per valve.

How to change a Franke Olympus tap valve

1. Turn off the water supply to the tap.
2. Using a 2 mm Allen key, remove the grub screw from the handle assembly.
3. Next, pull the lever from the shroud.
4. Then, unscrew the shroud from the main body of the tap.
5. Unscrew the old valve using a 17 mm or adjustable spanner. Bear in mind that it might take some initial force to free the valve if it has been in place some time.
6. Select the correct valve. The valves are identifiable by the notches on the hexagon drive. If it has notches, it is the hot valve.
7. Screw the correct valve into the correct position and tighten firmly.
8. Check the spindle of each valve is in the closed position and then align the handle as close to vertical as you can manage. If the handle is not exactly vertical, slide off the handle and re-position it by rotating it one or two notches then refit the handle. Repeat this procedure until you are satisfied with the handle alignment.
9. Next, refit the handle and tighten it carefully to secure it in position. Do not over-tighten.
10. Turn the water supply back on and check for leaks.

FAQs

How do I remove the Olympus tap lever handle?
1. Using a 2 mm Allen key, remove the grub screw from the handle assembly. This is located underneath the handle.
2. Slide the lever off the tap.
3. Unscrew the valve cover / shroud and remove.
4. You can now unscrew the old valve using a 17 mm or adjustable spanner.

What tools do I need to remove my Franke Olympus tap valve?
You need a 17 mm or adjustable spanner to unscrew your old valve. You can purchase one from us if needed - TapSparesUK 17mm Spanner.

A chunky brass ring (the bush) has come out with my old valve, what do I do?
You can purchase a replacement bush - Franke Olympus Bush - you will need one for each valve. We sell them individually, as a pair, or as a set with the valve pair. Or you can try and separate your current one from the old valve.
1. Turn off the water supply before removing any tap components.
2. Spray a little penetrating oil or WD-40 where the valve screws into the bush and leave it for a few minutes. If it has been in place for years, it may need a second application.
3. Hold the bush firmly using a soft-jawed vice or adjustable spanner. Wrapping the bush in a cloth first will help protect the finish.
4. Carefully turn the valve anti-clockwise. It should start to free up and unscrew from the bush. If it doesn't move straight away, don't force it. Another spray of WD-40 and a bit more time is usually better than applying too much pressure.
5. Once the valve and bush are apart, give the bush a clean. Wipe away any dirt, limescale or old residue from the thread and check it hasn't been damaged.
6. Refit the bush into the tap body first, making sure it's fully tightened, then install the replacement valve.

I can't remove the bush from my old valve, what do I do?
You can purchase a replacement bush - Franke Olympus Bush - you will need one for each valve. We sell them individually, as a pair, or as a set with the valve pair.
