I have removed my tap's old valves, but there is a brass bush ring stuck around them. What should I do?
This is a very common issue, and it's usually easy to resolve.
The brass ring is called a bush. On older taps, the bush can become stuck to the valve when it's removed. Your new replacement valve is designed to use the existing bush, so you will need to transfer it.
- Wipe the bush and the inside of the tap body with a clean piece of kitchen towel to remove any dust, grit or debris.
- Apply a small amount of Loctite 638 (a WRAS-approved metal retaining adhesive) to the outside of the bush and the inside of the tap body.
- Refit the old valve with the bush back into the tap and leave it for at least 20 minutes to allow the adhesive to cure.
- Unscrew and remove the valve again. In most cases, the bush will remain in the tap body, allowing you to install your new replacement valve.
If the bush is still stuck to the old valve, you will need to buy a replacement bush for your tap model. We carry replacement bushes for many of the most popular taps.
