Abode Pronteau ProTrad 4 in 1 Boiled / Filter Valve Cartridge SP4761

If your tap is dripping from the top of the spout, a worn valve cartridge can often be the cause. Replacing the valve can restore smooth operation and stop unwanted dripping and leaking, without the cost of replacing the complete tap.

TapSparesUK’s valve/cartridge is a genuine replacement for the Boiled / Filter side of the tap. It will make dripping from the top of your tap’s spout a thing of the past.

Suitable for the following models:

  • PT1193 Boiling & Filtered Water Tap Chrome
  • PT1194 Boiling & Filtered Water Tap Brushed Nickel
  • PT1195 Boiling & Filtered Water Tap Antique Brass

To replace the boiled water/filter valve:

  • Loosen the grub screw underneath the handle using a 2.5 mm Allen key.
  • Use a small screwdriver to remove the handle stop bush.
  • Remove the screw and bush.
  • Use a 16 mm long-reach socket to remove the valve retaining nut.
  • Pull the valve out of the body of the tap. You may need long-nose pliers to help.
  • Clean inside the the body of the tap with a soft, damp cloth to remove any debris, limescale etc.
  • Fit the new valve and put everything back together in reverse order.

Important: The valve only fits one way. Make sure the locating pins at the end of the valve line up correctly before fitting.

If your tap is dripping from the bottom of the spout where it meets the tap body, then you may need to replace the o-rings.

How To Replace Your Tap Valve

Replacing a tap valve is usually a quick and simple repair. Always turn off the water supply before starting.

1. Remove the handle
The handle is usually secured by a grub screw underneath the lever or a screw hidden behind the hot/cold indicator on the side of the lever. Remove the screw and gently pull the handle off.

2. Remove the valve cover / shroud if applicable
If your tap has a valve cover or shroud, unscrew and remove it.

3. Remove the old valve
Using a suitable spanner, turn the valve anticlockwise and remove it. If it is very tight, use a descaling solution, white vinegar, lemon juice or WD-40 to help loosen it. Allow it time to work before trying again.  If a brass bush is fitted and comes out with the old valve, don't worry. It can usually be separated from the valve. If not, replacement bushes are available from us. Take care not to damage the threads.

4. Fit the new valve
Before fitting, compare the new valve with the old one to check the length, thread, splines and opening direction. Screw the new valve in by hand first to avoid cross-threading, then tighten with a suitable spanner. Do not overtighten.

5. Refit the handle and test
With the valve fully closed, refit the handle in its normal off position, making sure it is correctly aligned. Secure the handle and slowly turn the water back on. Check that the tap operates smoothly and the dripping has stopped.
