Common Signs Your Tap Valve Needs Replacing

• Persistent dripping: Water continues to drip or flow from the top of the spout when the tap is turned off.
• Faulty handle: The lever is stiff or difficult to move, feels loose, or does not turn off the tap correctly.
• Poor water control: The tap no longer controls the water flow or temperature properly.

How to Replace the Mixer Valve Cartridge

Follow these steps to remove the old valve and fit the replacement. Refer to the manufacturer's installation guide and diagrams where available.

1. Turn off the water supply: Shut off both the hot and cold water supplies using the isolation valves or mains supply. Open the tap to release any remaining water pressure.
2. Remove the lever handle: Using the supplied 2mm Allen key, loosen the grub screw beneath the lever and carefully remove the handle. Keep the screw safe and do not force the handle if it feels stuck.
3. Remove the valve retaining nut: Using a suitable wrench or spanner, unscrew the retaining nut that holds the valve in place. Keep the nut safe, as you will need it to secure the replacement valve.
4. Remove the old valve cartridge: Pull the valve cartridge straight out of the tap body. Do not twist it. It should come out with little force. Check that the old O-ring has not been left inside the retaining nut.
5. Fit the replacement valve cartridge: Make sure the new O-ring is correctly positioned. Align the pins on the cartridge with the locating holes in the tap body. Ensure the pins fit into the holes correctly and the cartridge sits securely in the correct position.

6. Refit the retaining nut: Screw the retaining nut back into place and tighten it securely. Do not overtighten it, as this may make the mixer handle stiff to operate.
7. Refit the lever handle: Fit the lever in the correct position and slide it back into place. Use the 2mm Allen key to tighten the grub screw until the lever feels secure and firm.
8. Turn the water back on: Slowly restore the hot and cold water supplies. Check around the tap for leaks and test that the handle moves smoothly and controls the water correctly.
