Common reasons to replace your handle

  • Handle no longer grips the valve spindle correctly
  • Cracked or broken handle
  • Loose or wobbly handle
  • Cosmetic wear or corrosion

Fiiting Instructions

Replacing the handle is a quick and straightforward DIY job that requires only a 2mm Allen key.

1. Using a 2 mm Allen key, loosen and remove the grub screw located underneath the handle.

2. Carefully pull the old handle away from the tap.

3. Ensure the valve is in the fully closed position before fitting the new handle.

4. Push the replacement handle onto the valve spindle, aligning it so it sits in the correct position when the tap is off.

5. Tighten the grub screw until the handle is secure. Do not overtighten.

No plumbing work is normally required, as the water supply does not need to be turned off when replacing the handle only.

Olympus FAQs

My Franke Olympus tap is leaking from the base of the spout. What do I need to replace?

If your Franke Olympus tap is leaking where the spout joins the main body of the tap, this is usually caused by worn or damaged spout O-rings/seals rather than a faulty valve or cartridge.

The spout can be easily removed to fit new o-rings, and the spout refitted to restore a watertight seal. If the spout has a pinhole or is damaged, a replacement spout will be required.

How do I remove the Franke Olympus tap spout and replace the O-rings?

To remove the spout, use a 2.5 mm Allen key to loosen the grub screw at the back of the tap body. Once the screw is removed, carefully pull the spout upwards and out of the tap body.

The O-rings inside the spout can then be replaced before refitting the spout. You can watch our How To video here for a step-by-step guide.

My Franke Olympus tap is dripping from the top of the spout or around the handles. What is the problem?

If your Franke Olympus tap is dripping from the top of the spout or leaking around the handles when the tap is turned off, this is usually caused by a worn or damaged valve/cartridge.

Replacing the valve will normally restore the tap to full working order and stop the leak.

How do I remove the Olympus tap lever handle?

Using a 2 mm Allen key, remove the grub screw from the handle assembly. This is located underneath the handle.

Slide the lever off the tap.

Unscrew the valve cover/shroud and remove.

You can now unscrew the old valve using a 17 mm or adjustable spanner.

What tools do I need to remove my Franke Olympus tap valve?

You will need a 17 mm or adjustable spanner to unscrew your old valve.

A chunky brass ring (the bush) has come out with my old valve. What should I do?

This is common when removing older valves. The brass bush can often be separated from the old valve and reused.

If you need a replacement bush, you can purchase one here:

Franke Olympus Bush

One bush is required per valve. We sell them individually, as a pair, or as a set with the valve pair.

Alternatively, you can try separating your existing bush from the old valve:

  • Turn off the water supply before removing any tap components.
  • Spray a small amount of penetrating oil or WD-40 where the valve screws into the bush and leave it for a few minutes to work. If it has been fitted for many years, a second application may be required.
  • Hold the bush firmly using a soft-jawed vice or adjustable spanner. Wrapping the bush in a cloth first will help protect the finish.
  • Carefully turn the valve anti-clockwise to unscrew it from the bush. If it does not move immediately, do not force it. Applying more WD-40 and allowing additional time is usually better than using excessive force.
  • Once the valve and bush are separated, clean the bush thoroughly. Remove any dirt, limescale, or old residue from the thread and check that it has not been damaged.
  • Refit the bush into the tap body first, ensuring it is fully tightened, then install the replacement valve.

I can't remove the bush from my old valve. What should I do?

If the bush cannot be separated from the old valve, it may need replacing.
