How to fit a Kitchen Tap Handle

Before removing the handle, check how it is secured. Most tap handles use one of the following two fixing methods:

Handle secured with a grub screw

Look underneath the handle for a small grub screw. Use a 2 mm Allen key to loosen and remove the screw, then pull the handle away from the tap spindle. Some tap handles may use a 2.5 mm grub screw, although this is less common.

Handle secured with a hidden screw behind the indicator

Some tap handles have a small hot/cold indicator cap on the side of the lever. Carefully remove the indicator using your fingernail or a pair of tweezers to reveal a Phillips (cross-head) screw underneath. Remove the screw, then pull the handle away from the tap spindle.

Fitting the Replacement Tap Handle

1. Ensure the tap valve is in the fully closed position before fitting the new handle.

2. Push the replacement handle onto the valve spindle and check the alignment. The handle should sit in the correct position when the tap is fully closed.

3. If the handle is not aligned correctly, remove it and reposition it by moving it up a notch or two on the valve until it sits correctly.

4. Once aligned, tighten the grub screw or fixing screw until the handle is secure. Do not overtighten, as this may damage the screw or handle.
